If you need more confidence…try this
Need a little confidence?
We need to forgo our tendencies to "play it safe". Sure, we all need to look after ourselves (no crazy stunts or unsecured bitcoin investments), but we DO need a little confidence to edge into the things we're a little scared of.
Scary things, like:
delivering a TEDx talk
pitching our business to new investors
appearing on that hot new podcast
Confidence is the ticket we need to step into scary situations that are out of our comfort zone. But how do we find enough confidence to propel us forward?
To get confidence, find these 2 ingredients
Want a dollop of confidence to help you show up in the spotlight? First, let's re-define our terms.
I believe "Confidence” is made of two ingredients: competence and conviction.
FIRST: we need competence.
With competence, we’re focused on building strong skills, elevating your craft, and solving problems. If you have strong skills in your field, you’ll feel confident sharing your work and expertise with others.
Next: we need conviction.
Conviction helps us share our opinions, perspective, and point of view. With a little conviction, we we believe we can back up what we say.
With this new definition, we're suddenly eating a completely different meal. No more "oatmeal" ambitions that are more than a little lacklustre.
Suddenly, it's a whole new game. We're competing based on skills and aptitudes, not dull dreams that don't serve us.
Real confidence is about being quietly assured about the work you do, and humble enough to know that you always have more to learn.
And that is an absolute game-changer.
